News Values

Gotta be careful what you read in the news. Maybe sceptical is a more appropriate adjective. News is powerful if you're a person of little will- it's quite easy to taint and change someone's perspective of a matter or in fact enforce an opinion that wasn't there to begin with. And that's scary. Scary to know that a guy (or woman, for the feminists out there (of the radical persuasion)) (can you double bracket?) (tangent) anyway, it is scary to know that providing something is on the news, it is somewhat 'true'. It isn't.

News, depending on its source, offers a bias account and in cases where all sides of the particular case are exposed, there's still a bias being pushed through. I'm aware I'm being quite unsuccessful in articulating my annoyance clearly, so we'll settle for ambiguity.

But I'd like to think that those who are so easily manipulated are in a minority for I fear a world like the dystopia books I have read (see Orwell's '1984', Burgess' 'A Clockwork Orange', Huxley's 'Brave New World' etc)

But I know I'm set in my ways stubborn and question everything- a question isn't answered, if an answer isn't questioned, right? This started with news values and finished with Temples.

Spiacente.

*A very good band which I recommend seeing live, if you haven't already.

The Dying Course of Our Discourse

But what do we know? Who knows if what we know is actually right? Especially considering the laws of science and how truth in the past has been disproved with a new truth in its place. Copernicus and Galileo, I'm looking at you. But it's weird to think about that, blows my mind slightly. That's what it all is, we share a discourse of what things are and what they do and what it means, at least I think that's what it's called. Discourses follow a course that eventually die, short lived or long lived, perhaps reborn, but there is no doubt a dying course of our discourse.

Still questioning whether I should opt for dying course or dying cause. Course is a journey, in which all discourses follow but the cause of a demise of a discourse is still the discourse. So perhaps the cause of a no longer discourse was in fact the course of the discourse.

Ambiguity. A speciality of mine.

I did study something reminiscent of this in sociology but not to ponder over that, I've probably failed that A-level alongside the others. I predict failure, cheers to me.
I've lost where I was going.

Have a picture of Galileo looking rather jolly alongside Copernicus who looks equally as thrilled. Suppose if I had a theory that had been rejected or had myself accused of heresy for supporting said theory, I'd be looking pretty pissed as well (especially considering hundreds of years on, their discoveries are today's truth and universally taught.)
Long live astronomy.

I also hope my grand number of 0 readers all know who these two fellas are.

Suppose I should also be encouraging comments too, the Albion sails on course right?

First Post Panic

I created this blog in August 2013, which suggests I've been struggling with a first post. Slightly poor effort on my behalf that a first year anniversary finds this rather pathetic post, but I have been to my good friend Google. Google, I am sure, is a mutual friend of many and as it has helped me through years of schooling- as has the library (doesn't quite match the sat-in-bed-convenience, but useful nonetheless) it seemed the perfect pit stop for a briefing on how to write a blog. Only a year late in my thinking.

Regardless, I need to 'be relatable' and 'find my focus'. Expect a poor attempt at both. I am formidable for going off on a tangent, I'm easily distracted which I am fully aware of- until I do get distracted, where I drop all awareness until it's too late and I remember I was doing three things previously. That makes sense. Relatable, well that's a word of sorts. We're all in minority fields when it comes to relatability, and many of my posts I predict, will be ones I have previously written. I'll leave you hanging on the relatability, bear with me.

Speaking of, 'previously written' I have technically been writing a blog since August 2013- even before that. I have this habit of carrying a black book with me everywhere and I write everything in it, literally everything, any time, any place. Usually however, these pieces of writing come with the added extra of being fuelled by endorsements of several persuasions and therefore make every sense at the time of writing, but to read back, it's a bit of a decoding job. MI5 would struggle. Throw in the hieroglyphics I call handwriting and the struggle increases. But I suppose it will allow me to construct a better point of whatever it is I'm moaning about (let's be honest, the ratio of moaning to just incoherent rambling is rather disproportionate in it's equality.) I also draw, not very well and even less so under influence, but the internet won't have the pleasure of seeing those.

I can't even remember the point of what I was saying minus the first post lack of business and something about a tangent, but even in dialect I have to constantly mention potential tangents followed by an apology of 'going off on one' when I inevitably do. I get distracted.

Anyway, that's a first post. Of sorts. Unfortunately, this foregrounds the direction of future babble, I'm a distorted soul.
